3 Jan 2023 - 20:49

Head of the University of Tehran announced readiness to admit female Afghan students, saying that the admission depends on their scientific conditions and academic records.

Addressing a gathering of Afghan girls, Mohammad Moghimi described the University of Tehran's special attention to increasing the admission of students from Resistance countries, especially Afghanistan and Iraq, in line with Martyr Soleimani’s aims.

He also referred to the reduction in the admission fee for Afghan students.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Moghimi criticized the Taliban for their recent decision on depriving Afghan girls of education.

Extreme views are not acceptable in this regard, he stated.

Earlier, Rasoul Mousavi, an aide to the Iranian foreign minister offered Iran’s stance on a suspension of academic education for all female students in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani expressed regret over the decision by the Taliban in Afghanistan to suspend access to universities for female students.

Meanwhile, Director General of Faculty Members and International Students of Tehran University Masoomeh Malek said that the university’s budget for granting scholarships to Afghan students has increased five-fold.

She added that 470 Afghan students including 140 girls are studying at the University of Tehran.

Malek also referred to special support for the elite Afghan students, saying that the Tehran of University will grant full scholarships to five percent of elite international students this year.
