Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian has underscored the high level of security in the country, describing the Islamic Republic as “the island of stability” in the restive Middle East region and noting that the country's enemies will fail.
“During meetings with officials from other countries, they all admitted that the Islamic Republic of Iran is the island of stability in the restive and fairly challenging Middle East region,” Amir Abdollahian wrote in a post published on his official Twitter page on Saturday night.
He noted it is the resilience and steadfastness of Iran, which is targeted by ill-wishers under any pretexts.
AmirAbdollahian also commented the Iranian nation’s vigilance against the hostile plans for inciting insecurity and creating problems in the country, stressing that, “Enemies will definitely fail to attain their objectives.”
Violent protests have broken out in several Iranian cities over the September 16 death of Mahsa Amini, a young Iranian woman who died at the hospital days after collapsing at a police station in the capital Tehran, where she and a group of others were receiving educational training on dress code rules.
Despite Iranian officials’ clarification on the circumstances surrounding Amini’s death, violent street protests have led to attacks on security officers and acts of vandalism against public property and sanctities.
Speaking on Friday, Iran’s Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi said the riots that have followed Amini's death, had nothing to do with the tragic event, stating that the issue was being exploited to instigate chaos and wreak havoc across the country.
Last week, Iranian police released CCTV footage, which shows Amini collapsing in the police station.
The video rejected claims that she was beaten up, denying any physical contact with her.
Dr. Massoud Shirvani, a neurosurgeon, told IRIB TV2 television channel on September 20 that the deceased woman had a brain tumor removed at the age of 8.

“Mahsa Amini was treated with drugs after the surgery under the supervision of an endocrinologist,” the physician said.
US signals readiness for JCPOA revival: FM
Separately, Amir-Abdollahian said the United States has sent messages in recent days, indicating its preparedness to clinch a final agreement on the revival of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
He made the remarks in New York on Saturday as he is currently holding meetings on the sidelines of the 77th UN General Assembly session.
Amir-Abdollahian highlighted that he has made it clear to representatives of the European Union and signatories to the JCPOA that Iran possesses the required will and determination to reach an agreement.
“It is now the American side that must have the courage to take a decision in order for us to talk about striking a good, strong, and durable agreement,” the Iranian foreign minister pointed out.
He added, “The American side has repeatedly informed us in recent days that they have the resolve and goodwill necessary to reach an deal. We told them to realistically translate their words into action so that we can reach a deal.”
The United States, under former president Donald Trump, abandoned the Iran deal in May 2018 and reinstated unilateral sanctions that the agreement had lifted.
The talks to salvage the agreement kicked off in the Austrian capital city of Vienna in April last year, months after Joe Biden succeeded Trump, with the intention of examining Washington’s seriousness in rejoining the deal and removing anti-Iran sanctions.
Despite notable progress, the US indecisiveness and procrastination caused multiple interruptions in the marathon talks.
