Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has expressed optimism about consolidation of Iran-Europe ties under new Iranian president, Hassan Rohani, who will take office early next month.
“We hope that after the administration of Rohani takes office, we will witness the enhancement of European countries’ cooperation and interaction with Tehran,” said Salehi at a Tuesday meeting with the outgoing Austrian Ambassador to Tehran Thomas Buchsbam.
Rohani emerged victorious in Iran's June 14 presidential election, which was marked by a high voter turnout. He won 50.7 percent of a total of over 36 million ballots counted.
Salehi also praised the long-standing friendly relations between Iran and Austria, adding, “There is no obstacle on the way of development and expansion of Iran-Austria ties.”
Buchsbam, for his part, praised Iran’s ample potential for mutual cooperation and expressed optimism that under the next administration of Rohani, Tehran-Vienna relations will witness further growth particularly in the economic, commercial and tourism sectors.
