Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh has strongly reacted to the report by the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran, dismissing it as “biased and baseless.”
Calling the report unilateral and untruthful, Khatibzadeh said that exhibiting a political and selective approach toward human rights not only does not help to promote it, but also destroys and undermines human rights.
"While condemning these unilateral coercive measures, the Islamic Republic of Iran considers the failure of the Special Rapporteur to address the harmful effects of these actions on the enjoyment of human rights, as a sign for his lack of impartiality and the incompleteness of his report to the 49th session of the Human Rights Council," the Foreign Ministry official stated.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has offered its thorough comments on this report, which has been officially published by the UN Human Rights Council, according to the spokeswoman for the foreign policy apparatus.
Rejecting the false allegations and accusations by the reporter, which are based on misinformation received from biased sources, including terrorist and Western groups, Khatibzadeh stressed that, despite refusing to accept the Special Rapporteur's mission and viewing the Human Rights Council resolution as political, Iran has always provided comments on the Special Rapporteur's reports. Unfortunately, Iran's forthright viewpoints met with the reporter's disregarding approach toward these comments, which confirmed his political and biased stance.
"Also rejecting Western countries' duplicitous and hypocritical approach toward human rights, Iran committed to supporting and promoting human rights around the world, and will continue to seriously promote the human rights of its people despite unilateral US coercion," the Foreign Ministry official concluded.
