The Syrian Army says it has inflicted heavy losses on foreign-sponsored militants fighting against the government across the country.
On Thursday, the Army destroyed at least two truckloads of arms and ammunition belonging to the militants near a military center in the northern city of Aleppo, the official news agency SANA reported.

In addition, the Syrian armed forces killed many militants.

Syrian security forces also attacked militant positions in areas around the capital, Damascus, making more gains in the Barza and Hujaira districts near the city.

According to military sources, a large number of terrorists, including foreign nationals, were killed in clashes near the southern countryside of Damascus and the eastern district of Ghouta.

Meanwhile, the Syrian Army tanks and armored vehicles reportedly entered the northeastern city of Deir ez-Zor, clashing with Takfiri extremists there.

The Army also killed and wounded many members of armed groups in the governorates of Idlib, Daraa, Homs, Lattakia, and Deir ez-Zor. Several insurgents were also reportedly killed during the operations.

The offensive follows gains in Homs province by the Syrian troops in recent weeks.

The Army established control over the strategically-important town of Qusayr, between Homs and the Lebanese border, in early June. Syrian troops were backed by forces from the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah during the Qusayr operation.

The government troops have recently conducted successful clean-up operations across the country, inflicting heavy losses on Takfiri extremists.

The Syrian Army’s push against the militants rattled their sponsors.

Syrian Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi said on June 26 that Saudi Arabia is trembling with fear because of the Syrian Army’s recent successes against the militants.

In a meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry in Jeddah, Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal insisted on June 25 that the militants in Syria must be armed with anti-aircraft and anti-tank weapons.

Zoubi said that the Saudi weapons and money is the main reason behind bloodshed in Syria, adding that Faisal “is lost in the Syrian blood.”

Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011. According to the United Nations, more than 90, 000 people have been killed and millions of others displaced in the violence.
