Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the US committed a grave mistake by assassinating top Iranian commander Lt. General Soleimani in a cowardly manner.
“By cowardly assassinating Gen Soleimani, US committed a grave mistake,” the Foreign Ministry said in a post on its Twitter account.
“Iraqi MPs' vote to expel US troops is the beginning of the end of the malign presence (of the US) in our region,” it added.
“Our region has suffered enough by the interventions of the US outlaw regime,” said the post.
On January 3, a US drone strike near Baghdad International Airport assassinated General Soleimani, former commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps. The attack — that also killed Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the second-in-command of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) anti-terror group, along with several others— came while General Soleimani was on an official visit to the Iraqi capital.
