Iranian MPs slam European Parliament’s rights resolution against Iran

19 Dec 2020 - 15:06

An Iranian parliamentary commission condemned a resolution that the European Parliament has adopted on the human rights situation in Iran.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission strongly condemned the European Parliament’s interference in the internal affairs of Iran after the MEPs adopted a “ridiculous” resolution about the Islamic Republic.

The Iranian commission also condemned a recent report published by the UK Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee about Iran as well as the French government’s reaction to the execution of an Iranian convict.

The National Security and Foreign Policy Commission said the European Parliament that is opposing capital punishment and supporting convicts is the very same institution that remained silent on the cowardly assassination of Iranian scientists, has sponsored anti-Iranian terrorists and separatists, and has hosted leaders of terrorist groups.

The statement came after the European Parliament adopted two resolutions taking stock of the human rights situation in China, Iran and Egypt.

The text of the resolution against Iran was approved in the European Parliament by 614 votes in favor, 12 against and 63 abstentions.
