FM Zarif to Biden: Abandon Trump’s 'disastrous lawless bullying'

9 Nov 2020 - 0:29

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has reacted to the result of the latest presidential vote in the United States and the election of Joe Biden as the 46th US president, advising the new administration to give up its predecessor’s “disastrous lawless bullying.”

Zarif’s comments came after the US Democrat presidential candidate surpassed the 270 electoral votes he needed to oust the incumbent President Donald Trump on Saturday to become the new US president.

Biden, in his first speech following his win, said it was "time to heal" a deeply divided nation.

"The people of this nation have spoken. They have delivered us a clear victory, a convincing victory," Biden told honking and cheering supporters in a parking lot in his home town of Wilmington, Delaware.

"... now, let's give each other a chance. It's time to put away the harsh rhetoric, lower the temperature, see each other again, listen to each other again," he added.

In his Sunday tweet, Zarif said, “The American people have spoken. And the world is watching whether the new leaders will abandon disastrous lawless bullying of outgoing regime —and accept multilateralism, cooperation & respect for law.”

Iran’s top diplomat then echoed a previous assertion by some other high-ranking Iranian officials, alluding to the fact that a change of the US president per se is not important, but the practical path they take to other countries is what actually counts as “deeds matter most.”

Iran's record: dignity, interest & responsible diplomacy.

Zarif then pointed out that “dignity, interest and responsible diplomacy” are the main hallmarks that characterize Iran’s track records both in domestic and foreign policies.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said on Tuesday that Iran will not be concerned about who emerges the winner of the US race for presidency and that the Islamic Republic’s stance towards the US hegemony will remain unaltered whatever the result of the election.

The Leader said, “Some may think that a government can benefit from submitting to the demands of the United States, but the governments that surrendered to American bullying have suffered the most and their troubles have only multiplied.”

“Iran’s policy towards the US is calculated and clear and does not change with the movement of individuals,” Ayatollah Khamenei stated.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani also on Sunday advised the incoming US administration to make up for its predecessor’s mistakes and return Washington to its international commitments.

“An opportunity has arisen now for the next US administration to make up for the past mistakes and return to the course of commitment to international obligations by respecting international principles,” Rouhani said.

Shamkhani: Americans rejected failed idea that bullying is solution

Meanwhile, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani also said on Sunday that the defeat, which Trump suffered in the recent presidential vote was a sign that most Americans have rejected the failed idea that considered bullying as the solution to all problems.

Iran's security chief added in his Twitter post that Trump’s failure in the presidential election was not a surprise, but "is the fate of history."
The end of #Trump is not a surprise, it is the fate of history.
Most Americans rejected the record of a total failure thought that considered bullying as the solution.
Is the elected government wise enough to write under his picture in #WhiteHouse,: "The Lesson for Posterity"

Shamkhani then expressed hope that the elected administration of the United States would be wise enough to learn from Trump's fate, and "write under his picture in #WhiteHouse: 'The Lesson for Posterity'.
