Iran President to address 75th session of UNGA remotely

22 Sep 2020 - 16:21

Tasnim - Iranian President Hassan Rouhani will address the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday.

The annual gathering of world leaders has been relegated to a largely virtual format by the novel coronavirus pandemic and will feature few of the sideline meetings that have made the assembly a signature event for the world’s diplomats.

It will also occur as the world is looking toward the November presidential election to see if Trump’s policies will continue for another four years or if Joe Biden, the Democratic nominee for president, will take over and redirect American foreign policy.

The General Assembly’s annual general debate, which provides Member States the opportunity to reaffirm their commitment to multilateralism, opens on Tuesday, September 22, at 9 a.m. in New York. It will take place through Saturday, September 26 and on Tuesday, September 29.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, speeches this year will be mostly pre-recorded, with some delegates delivering live statements in the General Assembly Hall on behalf of their head of State or Government.
