The national Iranian men’s futsal team has beaten Japan, winning the gold medal at the 2013 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in South Korea.
Iranians trounced the Japanese 5-2 at the Songdo Global University Campus in South Korea’s northwestern city of Incheon on Saturday and clinched the gold medal.
Ali-Reza Vafayi scored two goals while Ali Asghar Hassanzadeh, Mohammad Taheri and Vahid Shafiee each managed to scores once for their team.
Iran advanced to the final match by trouncing Iraq, the UAE, China and Thailand.
With this victory, the Iranian men’s futsal team has won its fourth consecutive victory at the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games.
This comes as the national Iranian women’s futsal team also snatched the silver medal at the 2013 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in South Korea on Friday. They lost the final match to powerhouse Japan.
The Iranian women's futsal team had advanced to the final by defeating Indonesia 4-0 in a semifinal match on Wednesday.
