Financial Tribune - Rimdan border crossing on the Iran-Pakistan frontier reopened on Saturday, says spokesperson of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration, Rouhollah Latifi.

According to the official, 14 Iranian trucks carrying export commodities were given the go-ahead to cross into Pakistan from the border crossing on Saturday.

Pakistani officials have authorized the entry of 20 trucks per day carrying food products into their country on Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. with health protocols in effect, Mehr News Agency reported.

Pakistan first closed its eastern and western borders with Iran, Afghanistan and India on March 15 to contain the spread of the new coronavirus.

Latifi said on Saturday that Pishin and Rimdan border markets both in the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan will reopen for trade within the next few days.

“The Pakistani side closed these border markets in late February when the outbreak of the novel coronavirus was officially announced in Iran. At present, these markets are being disinfected based on health protocols to ensure the safety of traders and locals of the two sides,” he said.
