IRGC chief refutes talks with US

6 Sep 2019 - 20:16

Tasnim – Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Hossein Salami warned against the US plot for direct talks with Iran, stressing that the Islamic Republic won’t fall into such trap.

In an address to a gathering of IRGC personnel in Iran’s southern port city of Bushehr on Friday, Major General Salami said the US government seeks to regain its lost honor through talks with the Iranian officials.

Highlighting Iran’s awareness of the “enemy’s dreams”, the general emphasized that none of the Iranians would enter talks with the US, because everybody knows that negotiation is part of a game that helps the enemy achieve its objectives.

“The US president’s dream is to hold talks with an Iranian official for a couple of minutes,” the general added.

He also praised the Islamic Republic’s success in foiling the enemy’s plots over the past 40 years, saying Iran has become the “slaughterhouse of the enemy’s economic terrorism”.

Back in June, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei categorically rejected the possibility of talks between Iran and the US, saying the US president does not merit a response or exchange of messages.

Earlier in May, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani had also dismissed the idea of direct negotiations with the US under the current circumstances, stressing the need for resistance against an ongoing economic war waged by Washington.
