Iran hails UN workshops on environmental crises

IRNA - Iranian Minister of Information and Communications Technology Mohammad Javad Jahromi welcomed holding two workshops in Iran to solve environmental problems like drought, managing floods and protecting forests.

Addressing a meeting with Head of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) Simonetta Di Pippo, Jahromi referred to the close cooperation between Iran and UNOOSA and appreciated the United Nations Department of Safety and Security for taking high-quality photos of the flood-stricken area in Iran.

He added that the photos were used to solve problems in managing floods, droughts and protecting forests.

He went on to say that both sides agreed to hold regional and international workshop with the attendance of the countries involved in environmental issues.

Stressing the fact that UNOOSA has always supported Iran’s peaceful aerospace achievements, Jahromi said that regarding next year’s plan to launch new satellite, Tehran will continue cooperation to develop peaceful aerospace achievements.

He also expressed hope for the cooperation to improve environmental conditions and to save Iran’s interests in the region.

On the sidelines of the event, Jahromi visited satellite achievements’ exhibition.

Jahromi heading a delegation made a trip to Geneva to participate in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in Switzerland.

He then travelled to Vienna to sign cooperation document with United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs is a part of the United Nations Secretariat, located at the United Nations Office in Vienna, Austria.

It is tasked with implementing the decisions of the United Nations General Assembly and of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.
