Iran, Iraq plan $-20b trade exchange for next two years: Minister

IRNA – Iranian minister of industry, mine and trade said here on Thursday that Tehran and Baghdad have targeted 20 billion dollars worth of trade exchange for the next two years.

Reza Rahmani made the remarks in a meeting held in Qom, west of Tehran, with senior Iraqi cleric Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Sistani’s representative in Iran Hojjatoleslam Javad Shahrestani.

In the meeting, Rahmani referred to the recent visit of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to Iraq, saying the fruitful travel brought 21 agreements on cooperation in the areas of mine, trade and industry.

The worth of trade exchange between Iran and Iraq is 12 billion dollars at the present time, while the two have predicted that the figure would reach 20 billion dollars in the next two years, Rahmani said.

The minister added improvement of the quality of the Iranian products is necessary to be present in the international markets.

About Rouhani’s visit to Iraq, the minister said the Iranian delegation was warmly welcomed by the Iraqi officials.

During Iranian president’s travel to Iraq, Tehran and Baghdad signed important agreements on cooperation in the fields of railway, visa, health, oil, industry, etc.
