IRNA – President Hassan Rouhani said on Wednesday that the Iranian Supreme Leader, government and Majlis are resolved to promote brotherly ties with Iraq in all fields.
In a meeting with the Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi, President Rouhani highlighted the two countries’ mutual cooperation for regional stability, fighting terrorism and boosting bilateral relations.
“Iraqi officials’ visits to Iran are beneficial for the two countries’ bilateral relations,” he said, noting that Iraq and Iran’s stability mutually influence each other.
The two nations’ historic relations and massive visits by the tourists and pilgrims indicate the two nation’s cultural cohesion and their interests in each other.
Halbousi, for his part, stressed the need for promoting bilateral relations, saying, “We are opposed to any sanctions against the Iranian nation.”
Appreciating Iran for its supports to Iraq in fighting terrorist groups, he said that Iraq believes promoting Iran-Iraq ties will contribute to regional stability.
