20 Jun 2013 - 12:56

Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki says Iran’s President-elect Hassan Rohani is capable of resolving major problems in the region and the Muslim world.
In a telephone conversation with Rohani on Wednesday, the Tunisian president stated that his country has pinned its hopes on Iran's president-elect to solve the problems that the region and the Muslim world are currently grappling with, including the conflict in Syria.

The Tunisian president once again congratulated Rohani on his election victory, wishing him success.

Rohani, for his part, called for the further enhancement of amicable ties among all friendly countries across the globe, including between Iran and Tunisia.

The Tunisian president and the Iranian president-elect also urged closer cooperation between Tehran and Tunis at regional and international levels.

They further stressed the importance of bolstering political, economic and cultural cooperation between the Iranian and Tunisian people.

Rohani won Iran’s June 14 presidential election with an outright victory, gaining 18,613,329 votes, or 50.7 percent of a total of 36,704,156 ballots.

The Iranian president-elect currently represents Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in the country’s Supreme National Security Council, is a member of the Expediency Council and the Assembly of Experts, and is also the director of the Expediency Council's Center for Strategic Research.

On Wednesday, the Guardian Council, Iran’s highest electoral supervisory body, confirmed the validity of the country’s presidential election results.
