IRNA – Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vassily Nebenzia said on Tuesday that political process in Yemen is a major contributor for regional stability, noting that participation of major countries including Iran will play a key role in promoting regional security and settlement of crises.

Addressing a UN Security Council Meeting on Yemen on Tuesday, he hoped that conflicting parties find out futility of military confrontations and move toward political approach.

From the beginning of conflicts in Yemen, Russia has supported diplomatic settlement of the issues, he said.

Unfortunately, conflicts are still in place and humanitarian catastrophe is taking place in a wider scale, as millions of Yemenis are suffering from hunger and unable to buy medicine and necessary services, Nebenzia said.

He called on the UN Security Council to help guide disputes towards diplomatic settlement and an all-out ceasefire and send necessary aid to Yemen.
