Acclaimed Iranian director Asghar Farhadi’s Paris-set tale movie The Past has started its public screening in the home country’s movie theaters.
Farhadi’s latest production went on a number of movie theaters screens in the capital city of Tehran as simultaneously hit some 2000 screens in the world.

Farhadi’s latest film The Past (Le Passé) received public screening licence from Iran’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance at the request of film distributing company, Filmiran, Iran Cinema Organization had earlier announced.

The Past is Farhadi’s sixth directorial experience and first one in a foreign country that was shot in the French capital, Paris.

Farhadi’s immigrant romantic drama depicts the story of an Iranian man who deserts his French wife and two children to return to his homeland. When he comes back to Paris upon his wife's request for a divorce encounters with a complicated situation of the family there.

The film scooped two prizes at the 66th Cannes film festival including the Best Actress award that went to Argentine-French actress Berenice Bejo, and the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury (prix du Jury œcuménique).

The Prize of the Ecumenical Jury was conferred on Farhadi for his film’s moral values, according to the statement of the jury.
