Tasnim – Heavy snowfall in mountainous areas of Iran’s western province of Lorestan caused many rural roads across Aligudarz county to be closed and unleashed a landslide that has blocked a river valley.
It has cut off roads connecting 147 villages with a total population of 21,000 to Aligudarz, head of the crisis management organization of Lorestan told Tasnim.
He said the Red Crescent Society and other rescue organizations are trying to open the roads and provide relief for people affected by landslide and snowfall.
The landslide has also caused damages to the power transmission network, a fish farm, and fiber-optic communication cables, he said, adding that more than 3 million cubic meters of debris has broken off the mountain face and tumbled into a river valley below, causing a buildup of water behind a natural-made dam that could wipe off a fish farming site and a building of the road maintenance department.
