A number of Persian Gulf Arab states have congratulated president-elect Hassan Rohani over his victory in Iran’s 11th presidential election.
On Saturday, the United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan sent a congratulatory message to Rohani.
“We felicitate you on winning the presidential election ... and wish you and the Iranian people further progress and prosperity,” said the UAE president, adding, “We look forward to working with you for the good of the region and the peoples of the UAE and Iran. We are keen on maintaining relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran that are based on cooperation.”
Leaders of Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait also sent similar letters to Iran’s newly-elected president.

Rohani won Iran’s 11th presidential election by securing 18,613,329 votes, or 50.70 percent, of a total of 36,704,156 ballots counted.

Rohani currently represents Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in the country’s Supreme National Security Council, is a member of the Expediency Council and the Assembly of Experts, and is also president of the Expediency Council's Center for Strategic Research.

Nearly 50.5 million Iranians, including more than 1.6 million first-time voters, were eligible to participate in the June 14 presidential, and city and village council elections. The Interior Ministry put the voter turnout at 72.7 percent.
