IRNA – Lawyer of Nazanin Zaghari, an Iranian-British citizen who has been sentenced to five years in prison and is currently serving her jail term, announced her client's request to Tehran prosecutor's office to agree with conditional release.
Mahmoud Behzadi-Rad, speaking on Tuesday in an interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) said her client had endured more than half a five-year prison term and was subject to conditional release regulations.
The lawyer added, 'We are currently awaiting the opinion of the prosecutor of Tehran, which we hope my client's conditional release will be agreed upon.'
Nazanin Zagari's attorney also reported on her illness and said, 'Given the client's illness, we have requested a transfer of Zaghari to the hospital to provide medical care at the hospital, and we are now awaiting the consent of the prison with a request for the transfer of Zaghari to the hospital.'
Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi said on December 11, 2017 that the case of the British-Iranian Nazanin Zaghari, who has been arrested over security charges, was among the issues discussed in a meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif and the then British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson.
Foreign Minister Zarif is following up Zaghari's case with the Iranian Judiciary officials based on humanitarian grounds, Qasemi said.
Zaghari who has dual nationality is considered an Iranian national and should serve her prison conviction according to the judicial system of Iran, said the spokesman.
