IRNA – Director General of the International Trade Department at Iran railways company said that Turkmenistan welcomes Iranian trains and the technical specifications of Iran’s trains will be sent to that country.
The agreement was made during the joint border meeting between the two countries’ railways officials on Monday in Iran’s Sarakhs border to prepare the grounds for Iranian trains to enter Turkmenistan, Shahram Jafari said.
Turkmenistan needs Iranian wagons for foreign transit of sulfur, he added.
Saying that the agreements are intended to smooth the way of Iran in accessing railways of Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), he added that the technical specifications and the building certifications of Iranian trains’ wagons, originally made by Russia, will be presented to Turkmen officials during next meeting to be held on March.
The total amount of commodities exchanged between Iran and Turkmenistan reached 1.97 million tons in the last Iranian calendar year (beginning on March 21) through shared borders of Sarakhs and Incheh Borun in northeast of Iran.
