IRNA – Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations Gholamali Khoshroo called on UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to take stance against the US law-breaking.
During his farewell ceremony at the end of his mission in the UN on Friday, he discussed main international and regional developments.
He urged Guterres to adopt stance against the US law-breaking and imposition of sanctions on Iran.
Condemning US unilateral exit from the JCPOA and threatening member states for cooperation with Iran, he said that it is unprecedented to see a permanent member of the UN Security Council punish the other members of the UN for abiding by the entity’s resolutions.
Global community should withstand the stubborn and unlawful measures, he said.
Khoshroo also lambasted Saudi attacks on Yemen as a profound humanitarian crisis, calling for an end to the devastating war and start of political compromise among the conflicting parties.
The UN chief, for his part, stressed the need for multilateralism against international challenges, hoping that Yemen war would end soon.
At the beginning of the meeting, Khoshroo presented an Iran-made tableau carpet featuring Guterres’ portrait to the UN secretary general.
Guterres welcomed the exquisite present, admiring Iran’s arts including painting, architecture and carpet weaving.
Khoshroo left for New York in 2014 as Iran’s permanent envoy in the United Nations and served in the position for four years.
