5 Nov 2018 - 16:29

MNA – Iranian lawmakers on Monday approved the country’s membership to the Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (APLAC), which was proposed by President Rouhani last May.

In today’s open session of the Parliament, lawmakers passed a bill on Iran’s membership to the Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (APLAC).

The bill had been submitted to the Parliament by President Rouhani back in May 2017.

The bill allows the government to join the Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation, and take measures regarding the payment for membership fees or any assistance.

Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (APLAC), initiated in 1992, is responsible for accrediting testing and inspection facilities.

APLAC’s principal objectives, according to its website, are to foster the development of competent laboratories and inspection bodies in member economies, to harmonize accreditation practices in the region and with other regions, and to facilitate mutual recognition of accredited test, measurement and inspection results. These objectives are consistent with and support the World Trade Organisation’s Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT Agreement).
