IRNA – Lebanon’s Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said on Tuesday that Iran has always backed his country in all fields including in the face of the Israel and fighting terrorism.


He made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Iranian delegation on the sidelines of the meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union’s (IPU) General Assembly on Tuesday.

Berri also appreciated Iran’s extensive support for Lebanon’s resistance movement and unity in the country.

“Daesh and Al-Nusra terrorist groups sought to distance us from Muslims ad Christians’ political Qibla, that’s to say Quds, and the issue of Palestine and creating rift among the Muslims.

Referring to the improvement of the situation in Syria, he added that security in Syria will bring security for Iraq and Lebanon too.

Head of the Iranian delegation Fatemeh Hosseini, for her part, described Tehran-Beirut ties as significant and hailed Berri’s role in striving for Lebanon and region.
