October 1, The Iran Project - The IRGC’s Sepah News outlet announced that, on early hours of Monday, Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps hit the gatherings of the ringleaders of the recent terror attack in the southwestern Iranian city of Ahvaz with several surface-to-surface ballistic missiles.

The early Monday blitz targeted terrorist positions to the east of the river Euphrates, near Albu Kamal town on Syria’s eastern border with Iraq.

American military forces are also stationed in Albu Kamal, which is located in Syria’s Dayr al-Zawr Governorate.

According to the statement released by the Corps’ Public Relations Directorate-General, the strike took place by the IRGC’s Aerospace Division, leaving large groups of terrorists and ringleaders linked to the Ahvaz terrorist attack dead and injured.

During the operation, dubbed The Muharram Strike, the IRGC’s Aerospace Force fired a total of “six medium-range ballistic missiles” from western Iran at targets 570 kilometers (355 miles) away, the statement noted.

Following the retaliatory strike, the IRGC flew seven combat drones and bombed the positions and strongholds used for accommodating and supporting the terrorists that are mercenaries of the global arrogance, it added.

Iran’s Fars News Agency said the rockets belonged to the Qiam and Zolfaghar families of domestically-developed advanced missiles.

Some rumors suggested that one of the missiles shot by IRGC at terrorists sites has failed to hit the target and collapsed in Kermanshah, but governor of the city Houshang Bazvand rejected the news.

Speaking at his weekly press conference Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi, referring to Iran’s firm resolve to fight against support and training centers for terrorism, said “we witnessed this determination today in the morning on behalf of the self-sacrificing forces of IRGC.”

The Monday attack came four days after IRGC Deputy Commander Brigadier General Hossein Salami warned Riyadh and Abu Dhabi against interfering in Tehran's domestic affairs or face retaliation.

The IRGC said the attack was a response to the “cowardly” act of terror during a military parade in the southwestern city of Ahvaz on September 22, which killed 25 people and injured 69 others.
