19 Jun 2018 - 13:05

IRNA - The lawyer of a man convicted for killing three policemen during a violent protest in the capital in February, denied certain reports in social networks that she would release documents showing her client's innocence.

Talking to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Zeynab Taheri said this king of action runs counter the country's national security.

She denied reports on Telegram messaging service quoting her as saying that she has evidence on the innocence of Mohammad Salas that would be published soon.

Taheri underlined that, 'such reports are not related to me.'

She added raising hue and cry when a person is executed and the verdict has been implemented would run counter the country's national security.

Mohammad Salas who had received the death sentence on March 19 after several court sessions, was hanged in Tehran on Monday (June 18) .

Three policemen were killed and several wounded after Salas drove a bus into a group of police officers in Tehran’s Pasdaran Street on February 19.

In a separate attack on the same day, one member of the Basij forces was run over and was killed, while another was stabbed to death.

Police spokesperson said 30 policemen were injured and many public and private properties were destroyed in the riot.

The security forces were trying to quell the disturbance involving Gonabadi dervishes, a Sufi community in Iran.

The dervishes were protesting the arrest of members of the sect, as well as rumors that their 90-year-old leader would soon be detained by police, despite assurances by the authorities that they had no such intention.
