Iran VP: US makes historical mistake on nuclear deal

9 Jun 2018 - 15:18

IRNA – Iran's first vice-president on Friday accused the US of making a historical mistake by unilaterally violating an international deal and imposing sanctions on Iran.

'The Iranian people will certainly give the US an appropriate response,' Eshaq Jahangiri told reporters while marching along with other demonstrators in Tehran.

He made the remark in reference to the nuclear deal between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany in 2015. The US withdrew from the deal on May 8.

Jahangiri also vowed that Iran will overcome the sanctions by relying on its people's capabilities.

The Iranian official also highlighted the importance of this year's Quds Day and said that the Iranians have always been forerunners in defending the oppressed nations.

Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, on August 7, 1979, designated the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as the Quds Day and the day of Islam's life.

Millions of Iranians took part in the nationwide Quds Day rallies on Friday to express their solidarity with the Palestinians.
