IRNA – The extraordinary meeting of the Palestine Committee of Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union's (IPU) opened in in Tehran on Monday.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Secretary General of the Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union Mahmud Erol K?l?ç are slated to deliver speeches at the meeting.
The meeting is being held at the request of the Iranian Majlis speaker, who is also the periodical chairman of Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), to discuss US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize al-Quds (Jerusalem) as the capital of the Zionist regime.
The OIC emergency meeting convened on December 13 in Turkey in which the Member States underlined recognizing the Palestine State with the Eastern Quds as its capital.
Several representatives and officials from Iran, Turkey, Afghanistan, Algeria, Azerbaijan Republic, Burkina Faso, Chad, Kuwait, Qatar, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Palestine, Libya, Sudan, Somalia, Mozambique, Guinea Bissau, Mali, Uganda, Senegal are attending in the day-long gathering.
The meeting is being held at the level of vice speakers of parliament and heads of parliamentary commissions of Muslim countries.
A ceremony will also be held on the sidelines of the meeting to honor K?l?ç's performance during his tenure as secretary of IPU.
