IRNA – The 9th transport summit of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) was opened in Turkmenistan on Thursday with presence of Iran as a member.
Iran's Minister of Roads and Urbanization Abbas Akhoundi, heading a high-ranking delegation, is participating in the summit which is being held in toursit resort, Avaza. He will also address the summit today.
Some 20 delegations from the member countries are attending the forum.
ECO is a Eurasian political and economic intergovernmental organization which was founded in 1985 in Tehran by the leaders of Iran, Pakistan and Turkey. Currently, 10 countries: Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Iran are the members of ECO.
Exploring the implementation of the previous agreements among transport ministers of ECO, suggesting initiatives on boosting cooperation on air, road and maritime transportation among countries of the region, as well as making decisions on regulations and tariffs are among the main topics of the meeting.
