MNA – Ali Larijani, the Speaker of Iranian Parliament, told his Sri Lankan counterpart on Thursday that bilateral relations are moving forward in areas of politics, culture, and legislation.
“The Iranian parliament has approved signing of the exchange of prisoners' treaty with Sri Lanka and it can be put into practice,” said Ali Larijani, the Speaker of Iranian Parliament, on Thursday.
The Iranian top lawmaker made the remarks in Sri Lankan capital city of Colombo while meeting with Karu Jayasuriya, Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka.
“When Sri Lanka was grappling with domestic issues, Iran was beside this country,” said the Iranian top parliamentarian after saying that the commercial ties between Iran and Sri Lanka are very old.
“The two parliaments have been cooperating at international venues and the ties between the two governments are also good as a result we are moving forward in areas of politics, culture, and legislation,” added Mr. Larijani.
Mr. Jayasuriya, in this meeting, for his part, called for expansion of trade interactions between Iran and Sri Lanka and said that his country is willing to broaden commercial ties with Iran.
