IRNA – Victory over Daesh (ISIS) terrorists helped stability and security in the region, said Iran's Minister of Defense Brigadier General Amir Hatami on Thursday.
Victory over Daesh terrorists was important for the stability and security of both Iraq and the entire region, General Hatami said in the Iraqi capital.
Hatami who is on the second day of his visit to Baghdad met and held talk today with Iraqi Interior Minister Qasim al-Araji and the two discussed regional issues.
He said that cultural, economic, political and social commonalties enjoyed by Iran and Iraq, have resulted in solidarity between the neighboring nations.
He also appreciated efforts by Iraqi government and hospitality of the people in the country during the spiritual ceremony of Arba'ein and Ashura observed and attended each year by millions of Shia Muslims.
We should also appreciate all the brave people who died fighting terrorists and the sacrifices they made to bring peace, tranquility and security to Iraq and to the region, he added.
Al-Araji, for his part, praised the Iranian government and people for all their supports for the Iraq.
He described as very important the role played by Iran's Leadership in defeating enemies of Islam and hailed guidelines offered by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
The Iraqi Interior minister also called for development of defensive, security and police ties between Iran and Iraq, saying such cooperation will help enhance country's domestic security.
General Hatami arrived in Baghdad on Wednesday for a two-day visit.
During General Hatami's visit to Iraq, Tehran and Baghdad signed two memorandums of understanding, one on technical-expertise cooperation and the other on industrial cooperation.
