13 Mar 2018 - 23:17

Press TV - Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi has survived an impeachment bid by the Parliament after securing a vote of confidence from lawmakers.

Akhoundi attended an open session of the Iranian Parliament on Tuesday for his third impeachment since he took the helm in August 2013.

In the session, the minister secured a vote of confidence with 92 lawmakers out of a total of 246 favoring a no-confidence vote, 152 opting against such a vote and 2 abstaining.

Several cabinet members, including First Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri, Culture Minister Abbas Salehi and Head of the Department of Environment Isa Kalantari accompanied Akhoundi during the hearing at the legislature.

The embattled minister was being grilled over a number of issues including a passenger plane crash that killed all 66 people on board in the southwestern city of Yasuj on February 18, 2018. Some lawmakers blamed Akhoundi’s mismanagement for the deadly crash.

Iran's Labor Minister Ali Rabiei also on Tuesday secured a vote of confidence during a hearing session at the Parliament on his alleged mismanagement. Rabiei managed to once again secure the Parliament’s confidence with 126 out of 253 votes in favor, 123 against, and two abstentions.
