IRGC Official: Iran's missile program no issue for talks

5 Mar 2018 - 17:04

FNA- Iranian Supreme Leader's Deputy Representative at the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Mohammad Ali Asoudi underlined that the country will never hold talks with the foreign states on its missile power.

"Of course, based on all Iranian officials' positions, the missile power will never be negotiated and we don’t accept any conditions in this regard," General Asoudi told FNA on Monday.

"The (2015) nuclear deal is not related to the missile and regional topics and the missile technology is for defense and deterrence," he added.

General Asoudi referred to French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian's visit to Tehran on Monday and Paris' earlier demands for talks with Iran on missile issues, and said, "The French know all these issues (Iran's opposition to missile talks) but they want to carry out field study during the trip and test how much they can maneuver on the missile negotiations."

In relevant remarks on Monday, Deputy Chief of Staff and Spokesman of Iran's Armed Forces Brigadier General Massoud Jazzayeri repeated the country's firm opposition to talks with the foreign states on its missile program, stressing continued progress in the defense fields.

"Enhancement of the country's defense power will continue uninterrupted and the foreigners are not entitled to interfere in this arena," General Jazzayeri said.

France’s foreign ministry had claimed on Sunday that Iran’s ballistic missile program was a major concern.

"No one is entitled to hold negotiations and talks with the foreigners on the country's defense and missile power," the Iranian General underscored.

He also said that in the current conditions that the world powers repeatedly raise threats against Iran or commit war crimes in the region, the Iranian Armed Force should enhance their defense capabilities in all fields, including the "missile systems".

General Jazzayeri had also announced on Saturday that Tehran will hold talks on its missile program only if Washington and the European states destroy their atomic warheads and long-range missiles.

"Annihilation of the US and Europe's nuclear weapons and long-range missiles is the prerequisite for negotiations on Iran's missiles," General Jazzayeri said.

He, meantime, underlined that the American officials' statements about containing Iran's missile power is a wish that will never come true and are result of Washington's failures in the region, adding that the US weakness vis a vis Tehran is the result of the latter's enhanced defense power.

Jazzayeri stressed that the US wrath will end and Washington will calm down when it leaves the West Asia region.

The Iranian officials have always criticized the western states for their interference and demands from Iran to hold talks on its missile program while themselves posses nuclear weapons.
