18 Feb 2018 - 15:53

Tasnim– An earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale hit an area on the border between Iran’s northeastern provinces of Semnan and Golestan on Sunday, a local official said, adding that it has left no casualties.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Head of the Crisis Management Department of Semnan Province Iraj Raeesian said the temblor jolted the border areas of the Semnan and Golestan provinces in the early hours of Sunday.

Rescue teams from the Crisis Management Department are present at the scene, he said, adding that no casualties have been reported so far.

Iran is one of the most seismically active countries in the world, being crossed by several major fault lines that cover at least 90% of the country. As a result, earthquakes in Iran occur often and are destructive.

On November 12, the western province of Kermanshah was hit by a major 7.3-magnitude quake that killed 620 people according to the latest toll.
