IRNA - An earthquake measuring 4.2 on Richter scale shook Kouhbanan in the southwestern province of Kerman at 22:11 hours local time (18:41 GMT) on Friday night.
According to the Seismological Center affiliated to the Institute of Geophysics of Tehran University, the epicenter of the quake was registered at 56.69 degrees longitude and 31.84 degrees latitude at the depth of 10 kilometers.
There is no immediate report on possible casualties or damage.
Iran sits on several major seismological fault lines, making it one of the world's most quake-prone countries.
