IRNA – The ninth Syria peace talks, which started in Vienna on Thursday, ended while the Syrian Congress of National Dialogue is slated for January 29-30 in Russia's Black Sea city of Sochi.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria talked of the Sochi dialogue, which is for the purpose of solving the Syrian crisis, saying, 'Invitations have been sent and continue to be sent to Syrian participants, some 1,600 people will receive such invitations.'
Before the start of the Syria peace talks in Vienna, UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura expresed optimism about the talks on Wednesday saying, ' It’s a very critical moment. Very, very critical.'
At the end of the Vienna meeting on Friday and based on the Syrian News agency (SANA) report, Syria's permanent representative to the United Nations Bashar al-Jaafari said that it is no coincidence that the Vienna meeting coincided with the “leaking” or intentional distribution of an “informal paper” for the so-called revival of the political process in Geneva about Syria by representatives of five countries who met in Washington and then Paris, namely the United States, Britain, France, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan, all of whom have been involved in shedding Syrian blood since the beginning of the crisis.
'This in itself is like a black comedy which we are living in a new chapter of the conspiracy against Syria. How does a country like America – who created and sponsored Daesh (ISIS) terrorist organization, and is still fighting for it over the Syrian territory, a state that violates Syrian sovereignty by its military presence on its territory in flagrant defiance of all international covenants and laws – how can a state like this whose hands are covered in Syrian blood and has directly attacked Syria, talk about the political solution and the future in Syria?' al-Jaafari said while being quoted by the Syrian news agency.
Iran, Russia and Turkey, three peace guarantors in Syria, reached an agreement in late 2017 on holding the Syrian Congress of National Dialogue in Sochi.
Since March 2011, Syria has been suffering from unrest and terrorist acts. Several rounds of talks have been held on Syria in Astana, Kazakhstan, since January 2017.
Iran, Russia and Turkey are the initiators of ceasefire in Syria.
