IRNA – An earthquake measuring 4.2 on Richter scale shook the city of Qasr-e Shirin in Kermanshah Province on Friday evening.


According to the seismological center affiliated to Tehran University's Geophysics Institute, the quake was one of the several after-shocks that hit the region since the main 7.3-magnitude earthquake which occurred in the province on November 12 killing over 500 and injuring several thousands.

The Friday evening’s tremor occurred at 19:47 hours local time (16:17 GMT) in an area located at 45.49 degrees longitude and 34.49 degrees latitude in the depth of 14km in the Iraqi territory in the vicinity of Iran’s border city of Qasr-e Shirin.

The tremor happened 18 km from Qasr-e Shirin, 37 km from Ezgeleh and 41 km from Sar Pol-e Zahab.

Since the November 12 earthquake to December 26, some 1,517 aftershocks have been registered in Kermanshah Province, of which 291 were over three Richter and 52 more than four in magnitude.
