Tasnim – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi reiterated Tehran’s policy to boost relations with Paris in all areas and said a visit by French President Emmanuel Macron to the Islamic Republic is on the agenda.

Speaking to reporters here in Tehran on Monday, Qassemi described Iran-France ties as “significant” and said the two countries have always had consultations.

The French foreign minister is slated to pay an official visit to Iran and Macron’s trip is also on the agenda, but a date has not been determined yet, the spokesman said, adding that the French president would visit Iran after the country’s foreign minister.

He further pointed to Macron’s recent remarks about Iran and said Tehran believes that there is a kind of misunderstanding about the situation in the region on the side of European officials.

Qassemi went on to say that Macron’s visit to Iran would be a good opportunity for serious talks on the issue.

Last month, Macron suggested amending the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), despite eight International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reports which have confirmed Iran’s full compliance with the agreement.

The Iranian nuclear agreement “must be preserved” but “complemented with two pillars,” Macron said during his visit to the United Arab Emirates on November 9.

Later in the day, Macron made a surprise visit to Saudi Arabia, where he said he was “very concerned” by Iran’s ballistic missile program. “There are extremely strong concerns about Iran. There are negotiations we need to start on Iran’s ballistic missiles,” he said in Riyadh.
