IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi on Sunday confirmed a report that US President Donald Trump had called for a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani while he was in New York for the United Nations General Assembly session but the call was rejected by President Rouhani.
Qasemi made the confirmation while responding to a question about a note which had appeared in one of the news agencies on Trump’s request to visit President Rouhani on the sidelines of the UNGA 72 in New York in September.
“The American side expressed such willingness but it was not accepted by President Rouhani,” Qasemi said.
Commenting on other details and issues raised in the note, the spokesman said, “Whatever was said about others, particularly about measures made by French President Emmanuel Macron, are all false and cannot be verified.”
