Iran Navy cmdr meets counterparts in Italy naval conference

IRNA – Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari on Friday met with his counterparts from the Netherlands, Italy, Algeria, Greece and Russia on the sidelines of Regional Seapower Symposium of the Mediterranean and Black Sea Countries in Venice, Italy.


The four-day naval conference opened in the Italian city on Tuesday in which representatives from more than 50 countries were present.

Sayyari and his counterparts underlined the need for fighting pirates and reaching collective security.

The Iranian commander noted that the presence of outside forces is the main reason for instability in the region.

During his stay in Italy, Sayyari also met and conferred with counterparts from Bulgaria, Portugal, South Africa, Croatia as well as Spain's deputy navy commander.

During meetings with Sayyari, navy commanders from different countries called on Iran to share its experience in fighting pirates and establishment of security in high seas.
