president.ir- President Rouhani met with the Prime Minister of Sweden in New York and said that a new chapter had begun in Tehran-Stockholm relations, adding: “The 12th Administration welcomes and supports Swedish entrepreneurs and investors’ active presence in Iran’s market”.
In the meeting with Stefan Löfven that was held on Monday in on the margins of the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly, President Rouhani said: “The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is a good opportunity to develop ties and taking advantage of this opportunity in beneficial to both nations”.
The president also emphasised the implementation of the two countries' agreements for the further development of cooperation, and stated: "We need better banking relationships to develop economic relations, and I hope that with the development of banking relations, there will be a better development in economic relations and other sectors, including academic and scientific fields, as well as advanced technologies”.
In another part of his remarks, Dr Rouhani expressed appreciation for the strong positions of the European Union, including Sweden, regarding the JCPOA and said: “The positions of the new US government are not suited to this important international agreement. JCPOA is an agreement that will be useful to the security and stability of the region and the world, and it will not harm anyone, and I hope that with cooperation of the parties, the agreement continues well”.
The president said that Iran sticks to the agreements and that the IAEA has repeatedly confirmed this, adding: “The other side must adhere to its obligations. The institution that ought to monitor implementation is merely the IAEA; but despite the fact that the IAEA is endorsing the adherence of Iran, some US officials claim that some of the paragraphs have not been implemented well; such statements have a negative impact”.
Dr Rouhani also mentioned the issue of fighting terrorism in the region and said: "Terrorists are defeated in Iraq and Syria, and good talks are underway in the Kazakh capital, Astana about Syria, in the presence of Iran, Russia and Turkey, which have achieved good successes. And all efforts should focus on the stability and security of the region”.
The president went on to address the issue of Yemen and thousands of displaced Yemeni people and said: "We also hope that the Yemeni groups will begin negotiations with the cease-fire in Yemen, and that the EU can support the security of the region by supporting this process”.
Dr Rouhani also mentioned the sad conditions of the Muslim community in Myanmar, saying: "Severe conditions have arisen for the Muslims of Myanmar and 400,000 innocent people are displaced. Pressurizing the Myanmar government to stop genocide and violence against Muslims is an essential step and undoubtedly, the role of the European Union in stopping the inhumane pressure on Myanmar Muslims and helping the displaced”.
The Swedish prime minister also called for a quicker implementation of all agreements between the two countries, saying: "I assure you that there is no limit to the development of economic cooperation between the two countries, and we support eliminating banking obstacles”.
"We are pleased that Iran, according to the Agency's reports, has fulfilled all its obligations to implement the JCPOA, and all parties must also comply with their obligations," said Stefan Löfven, emphasizing that "the deal should not be undermined".
He also called the situation of Muslims in Myanmar a tragedy, adding: “As an independent state, Sweden will do whatever it can in this regard. Regarding this issue, we raised the issue at the United Nations Security Council and will continue attempts to end the tragedy”.
