Iran enjoying most secure airspace in Middle East: Commander

29 Aug 2017 - 16:52

Tasnim – Commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili highlighted the effectiveness of the country’s integrated air defense network and said the Islamic Republic’s airspace is the most secure in the region.

In a statement issued on Tuesday ahead of the upcoming anniversary of the establishment of Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base, Brigadier General Esmaili lauded the forces stationed in the air defense base.

Nearly 10 years since the establishment of the base, the forces have managed to cross the boundaries of cutting edge technology of the day through using domestic capabilities and knowledge, he said.

The forces have enhanced the country’s defense power in a way that requests for permission for flying in the Iranian airspace, as the most secure one in the region, have dramatically increased, the commander went on to say.

Back in April, Lieutenant Commander of Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base General Ali Reza Sabahi-Fard said there has been a 1.5-fold increase in the number of the Air Defense missile sites across the country over the past five years.

He also noted that the country’s radar stations have doubled in number in the said period.

Thanks to the advanced, homegrown radars, some with ranges above 1,000 kilometers, the Iranian forces can monitor the enemies from home, General Sabahi-Fard said at the time.

Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the arms sphere.

Iran has made it clear that its military might poses no threat to regional countries, saying that the Islamic Republic’s defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.
