August 12, The Iran Project – The head of Iran Fisheries Organization says Islamic Republic ranks first in the production of Trout and Sturgeon across the world.
Attending the opening ceremony of Sharin production line in Nazarabad Industrial Town on Saturday, Hassan Salehi, who is also Deputy Agriculture Minister said last year, we produced nearly one million and 100 thousand tons of aquatic species, 54 percent of which were from fishing in the seas and 46 percent produced by aquaculture.
Also, last year, exporting 120,000 tons of fishery products and earning $ 412 million, we gained a good place in the fishing industry, Salehi added.
Elsewhere in his remarks, he stressed the great role of the JCPOA on the country’s fishing industry, saying as Russia limited its imports from Europe and the US in retaliation for their sanctions, we could use Moscow’s market so that today we export 100,000 tons of aquatic animals, especially shrimp, to Russia.
In April, the head of Iran’s Fisheries Organization signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the fishery sector with Vasily Sokolov, the deputy head of Russia’s Federal Agency for Fishery.
He also announced earlier that Iran exported $412 million of fisheries in the past Iranian calendar year (ended on March 20), planning to increase the value of its fishery exports up to $450-$500 million by the end of March 20, 2018.
