Iran Minister lauds space rocket test

2 Aug 2017 - 10:27

IRNA – Iran has achieved its goal as succeeded to launch Simorgh (Phoenix) satellite carrier, the country's Defense Minister said on Tuesday.

Imam Khomeini Space Launch Center (IKSLC) officially opened on July 27 with launching of an Iranian domestically manufactured satellite carrier, dubbed Simorgh, into the space.

Pointing to the US officials and media disinformation campaign regarding the rocket, Hossein Dehqan added that the launch was successful, as Washington is not expected to comment on the success.

The rocket is able to put satellites of up to 250 kg into the orbit 500 km above the surface of the earth.

Some US officials and media claimed that the Simorgh rocket is based on a North Korean design.

Calling the success a 'provocative action', they also claimed that Iran by the rocket launch violated the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231, whereas the technology used for launching space rockets is different from those for launching long-range missiles.
