Tehran, Beijing stress Syria’s sovereignty

MNA – China’s special envoy for Syria and MENA department director at Iranian Foreign Ministry emphasized on restoring territorial integrity and sovereignty of Syria.


China's Special Envoy for Syria Xie Xiaoyan met and talked with Director General of the Foreign Ministry’s Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Department on Sunday in Tehran.

At the joint session, Xiaoyan, while supporting independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria, emphasized his country’s decisive positions in the fight against extremism in the world and condemned any foreign intervention in affairs of other countries.

Referring to China's good and long-standing relationship with the Islamic Republic of Iran and Syria, he voiced his country’s readiness to cooperate effectively in the fight against terrorism, adding that the only way out of the crisis in Syria was political solution and Syrian-Syrian dialogue. The Chinese side also welcomed the initiatives of Iran, Russia and Turkey in Astana to help reduce violence saying “China is willing to provide necessary support to boost the ceasefire in Syria.”

Mohammad Irani, for his part, emphasized the need to continue consultations between the two countries to help end the ongoing crisis in Syria, as well as to assist its people in the process of rebuilding their country.

He also welcomed eagerness of the Chinese government to help with Astana talks and emphasized the need for all countries in the world to put an end to the plight of Syrian people.

The visit marks the second trip to Iran by China’s special envoy as a follow-up to Mohammad Iran’s visit to Beijing in February 2017.
