Tasnim – Two people out of 19 local tourists lost their lives after an incident while swimming in a river in remote area near the city of Dezful, in Iran's southwestern province of Khuzestan.
Speaking to Tasnim, Dezful Governor's Deputy for Political and Security Affairs Amir Isazadeh said, a group of 19 tourists encountered an accident while swimming in the Chal Kandi region of Dezful River in the kool Khersan Valley on Thursday afternoon.
He noted, the rescue teams were dispatched to the region immediately after the incident and saved the life of 13 tourists and in the meantime, bodies of two killed local travelers were recovered from the river.
Because of the special natural feature of the area, the rescue teams of Red Crescent Society and Firefighting Organization stopped operation last night and resumed operation to find 4 missing people on Friday morning, the official added.
He referred to dispatch of a helicopter to the region and noted that four missed tourists have already been found alive.
Since it was not possible for helicopter to land in the region to rescue the trapped tourists, preparations and equipment were dispatched to the region, Isazadeh said
Dezful has many tourist attraction for warm months. One of the most special and most attractive among them is Chal-kandi region. Chal-kandi is one of the beautiful and intact Dezful’s areas that is located at distance of 18km from north of Dezful in Dezful-Shahyun road.
Swimming, boat riding and fishing are amusements of Chal-kandi area. Specific type of land and walls of the area make rock climbing possible for mountaineers.
