Iranian city hosts Muslim media event

2 Jul 2017 - 11:14

IRNA - The 9th General Assembly of the Islamic Radios and Televisions Union (IRTVU) convened in Mashhad in this northeastern province on Sunday.

In the opening ceremony, secretary-general of IRTVU Ali Karimian underscored that the event is held in an Islamic country every year.

He added the event aims at introducing Mashhad capacities to the Islamic world.

Karimian said Mashhad was selected as the host city of the event after being selected as the Capital of Islamic Culture in 2017.

The event, attended by 600 foreign guests and 230 international channels from 36 countries will wrap up on July 4, 2017.

Mashad was selected as the Cultural Capital of the Muslim World for 2017 during the 7th conference of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) member states in the Algerian capital city of Algiers in 2007.

Launched in 2007 and now having 230 networks from 36 countries as member-states, the Islamic Radios and Televisions Union aims at overcoming the dominant single–voice air on global media.
