3 Jun 2017 - 21:43

IRNA – Vice President and Head of Environmental Protection Organization Masoumeh Ebtekar said on Saturday that Paris accord is a global agreement and the US pull-out from the treaty does not lead to the collapse of Paris accord.

Some 194 countries have signed Paris Accord and over 160 countries have officially joined the treaty, she said adding that Trump is looking for bargaining but all have underlined that the issue could not be bargained.

The Paris Agreement or Paris climate accord, is an agreement within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) dealing with greenhouse gas emissions mitigation, adaptation and finance starting in the year 2020.

It is very tough to achieve a multilateral agreement due to ample of challenges in the world and Paris agreement should be regarded as a golden opportunity leading us towards convergence, she said.

Environment is a global issue and treatment of every county leaves impacts on others, she said.

Many world countries have reacted to the decision made by the US president on pulling out of the Paris agreement, she said.

Many world leaders have condemned the move and a number of US states have separately announced that they will attend Paris agreement which indicates that US people are opposed to the views of President Trump, she said.
