Iran slams terror attacks in Baghdad

30 May 2017 - 15:51

MNA– Iran has strongly condemned the early Tuesday terrorist bombings in two busy districts in Iraq’s Baghdad which killed at least 27 people and wounded dozens more.

Iran’s Foreing Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi extended condolences and sympathy to the Iraqi government and nation, as well as the families of victims, saying “these heinous attacks during the nights of holy month of Ramadan is a clear indication of Takfiri terrorists’ inherent enmity toward true Islam and Muslims. It is also the last futile attempts of terrorists for getting out of the bottleneck of their certain defeat in Iraq.”

Ghasemi also noted the recent achievements of Iraqi popular forces in Mosul, stressing that the final victory against terrorism in Iraq is imminent. He further expressed hope that Iraq would be soon completely cleansed of the existence of Takfiri terrorists on its soil.

Two car bombs at a popular ice cream shop in Karrada district in central Baghdad and near the state-run Public Pension Office early on Tuesday killed at least 27 people and wounded dozens more. ISIL claimed responsibility for the first blast while there was no immediate claim of responsibility for the second bombing which took place near the al-Shahada (Martyrs') Bridge in the busy Shawaka district.
